Eric Clapton 生於1945年3月30日，是英國歌手。他在青少年開始學彈吉他，當時他對blues跟American R&B的音樂十分著迷。後來他成為著名的吉他歌手，創作加上歌唱的天份讓他享盡光榮。可惜在他正走紅時卻染上惡習，吸毒、酗酒開始威脅他的音樂事業。 

1990年末期，Clapton的其他幾位吉他的合作夥伴，因為一次直昇機墜落而不幸罹難，造成他極度的悲傷。更慘的是，幾個月之後，他的兒子Conor，又從49層樓高的公寓大樓意外墜落而喪命。他的生命頓時全然陷入一片愁雲慘霧，面對如此慘痛的經歷下，他用最為深沉的哀慟寫出Tears in Heaven，並將這一首獻給他的兒子Conor。也因為這一首得到1992年Grammy音樂大獎（那一年他一共獲得六項Grammy音樂獎的殊榮。）

~~~ 每次聽這一首，總是感動得直吞眼淚，我想有一天我也會去天堂。那一天我可能變老，可能變得跟現在不一樣，也可能比老爸還老。老爸那時還會認得我嗎？我要提醒爸爸說，在天堂見面時要記得握住我的手，讓我知道他就在我身邊。未來的每一天我都會變得更堅強，因為我現在並不屬於天堂，可是我卻要用一輩子去思念我的爸爸。生命或許就是這樣，經歷過的苦難卻成為日後美好的祝福吧。~~~
